Beware of Sweepstakes Asking for Money

May 29, 2013

DSCF8129

I despise companies that take advantage of people asking them for money in order to receive a prize. There are also companies or individuals posing as legitimate companies to collect personal bank account information. There are all types. This is a scam I received in the mail today.

Award Assessment Division
PO Box 2905
Kansas City, KS 66110-2905
United States of America

This company claims that I have won $3,000,000.00 and that I am scheduled to receive 30 payments of $100,000.00 over a 30 year distribution. They are requesting that I send a check back to them in the amount of $11.89 in order to secure premium offer acquisition fee in order to secure delivery. They state that payment is required in order to reserve delivery. After doing some research the company NextGen, Inc. is responsible for sending out these mailings. There have been many complaints logged against them at the Better Business Bureau. http://www.bbb.org/kansas-city/business-reviews/prize-promotions/next-gen-inc-in-overland-park-ks-89110035/

As a general rule never send a company money as a condition in order to win something. Some companies will offer legitimate products or a service that is never a condition for winning sweepstakes. Always check out the company you are dealing with before you do business with them.

Crazy Advice: A New Habit for Making Money

June 15, 2010

I have been reading a book by Steve Siebold  “177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class.” There is many lessons to be learned from this book. This is an excellent read that will teach you how to apply principles to your daily life and business that will impact the way you think about money and how you can accomplish your goals and dreams by finding new ways to produce a bigger cash flow in your life. Many people don’t believe the secret can work for them, and are skeptical. The secret is based on the law of attraction and how you can attract the things you want into your life.

I have a challenge even for those that think it’s impossible to make over $40,000 in one day. I am committing to this challenge myself and will let you know if this this works. Please watch this short video by Steve Siebold and set your challenge.

Direct Selling Home Decor Business Review

March 18, 2009
Last month I wrote an article on “Questions You Should Ask an MLM Company Before You Join”. The same kinds of questions apply if your thinking of starting up your own business in direct selling. I recently had the opportunity to review several companies all with similar products. All of the companies I reviewed are all MLM companies but are all structured differently. With this review I have listed the companies that are the best to work with, all others that I didn’t care for I left off this list. They were graded on several factors; Cost of startup, Consultant Benefits, Customer Service, Ease of Selling, Quality of Products, Tech Support and Training.
_
_
Home Decor Direct / Cuadros Y Cosas A+
Startup Cost$0 if you sell $150 (supplies are free with this method) or $59 for products and a supply kit ($150 value). A
Consultant Benefits – The very best income opportunity over any other company I reviewed plus you are rewarded for everyone you recruit and get cash bonuses for extra sales. A
Quality of Products – Excellent quality, most products are hand crafted in the USA and reasonably priced. A+
Ease of Selling – I signed up with $0 and got $268 in orders my first month. A
Customer Service – Most items are received within 1-2 weeks after you place your order. Customer service is excellent. A
Tech Support and Training – I had the opportunity to attend two training seminars before I started, with excellent one on one support. I was able to meet personally with the Vice President of the company. A
_

Southern Living At Home B+
Startup Cost$199 for a $400+ value of products and supply kit A-
Consultant Benefits – Consultants get discounts one item one time per year and 25% commission, plus you are rewarded for every recruit. B+
Quality of Products – Excellent quality, not a big variety of home decor items, lots of dishes. A-
Ease of Selling – Not too hard to sell, but some items are pricey. B+
Customer Service – Can’t contact customer service via phone, email took 4-5 days to respond. Items shipped slow, took more than 2 weeks. B
Tech Support and Training – Training was over the phone and audio CD’s. B+

_

Celebrating Home / Home & Garden Party B-
Startup Cost$99 for $200 in product or $149 for $300 in product. B+
Consultant Benefits
– Consultants get 30% commission, plus you are rewarded for every recruit. A-
Quality of Products
– Some items are not very high quality. Products range from reasonably priced to pricey. B-
Ease of Selling
– Good variety of products, some quality issues. B
Customer Service
– Can’t contact customer service via phone, email took over a week to respond. Most items received within 2 weeks. C+
Tech Support and Training – No one offered any one on one support, I did find some videos on You Tube. C

Going Digital: TV Converter Boxes Which One to Buy

January 16, 2009

All broadcasting television stations across America are required to go digital. Time is running out, if you haven’t already purchased a Converter Box to convert your signal to digital, on February 17,2009 you could be soon staring at a blank screen. If you have satellite or Cable TV you probably won’t need one. The federal government has issued a limited number of $40 gift cards to help you with the purchase of a new converter box. They have an expiration date so if you don’t use it, you will be out of luck. Only one person per house hold can apply. Request a $40 coupon toward the purchase of a digital-to-analog converter box. Go to https://www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009 for details.

Over the past few months I have had the opportunity to review Converter Boxes. To hook up a converter box it’s as easy as hooking up a VCR or DVD. I have listed a number of different bands and where they can be purchased.

  • RCA DT800B – Good reception went from 9 channels to 24 channels. The remote is very simple and easy to use, can be programed to use with any TV. $49 Can be purchased at Walmart, Kmart, Sears. I recommend this as the best value and easiest to use for the consumer. A
  • Zenith DTT901 – Reports excellent reception. The remote is more complex and has more features than other boxes. $59 Can be purchased at Circuit City. 10% of users report problems within 30 days, has a 90 day warranty. A-
  • Magnavox TB110MW9 – Good reception went from 9 channels to 20 channels. The remote is easy to use, has menu details of whats on each channel and whats scheduled to come on next. $49 Can be purchased at Walmart, Kmart, Sears. No volume setting on the remote, must use with your existing TV remote. B
  • Insignia NS-DXAI – Good reception, similar design as the Magnavox. The remote is easy to use, has menu details of whats on each channel and whats scheduled to come on next. $59 Can be purchased at BestBuy, RadioShack, Target, Walmart. No Closed caption, 20% of users report problems after 4 months, has a 90 day warranty. B-
  • Digital Stream DTX9950 – Reports excellent reception. The remote is is more complex has more features than most other boxes. $59 Can be purchased at RadioShack. Can’t be programed to use with all TV’s, 30% of users report problems after 3 months. B-
  • Apex DT502 – Reports OK reception. The remote is very simple and easy to use. $49 Can be purchased at Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City. 90% of users don’t like the remote, has very few features must use with your existing TV remote. 20% of users report problems after 3 months. C-
  • GE 22730 – OK to Poor reception when compared with other models. Box has a cool design, remote is limited with small buttons. $49 Can be purchased at Target. 90% of users don’t like the remote. D

Here is an article that will help you to go digital. It has information on how to hook up your converter box. http://TwitPWR.com/2dk/
